As a utilitarian, I see everything in my life as a tool to accomplish a purpose. Whether it’s my car, my tools, or even my furniture, everything is chosen and used based on its utility. I take care of everything I own to make sure it lasts, because I believe that every resource, we have is valuable and should be used to its fullest potential.
One example of this is my 21-year-old car. Despite its age, it could almost pass as brand new. That’s because I take great care of it, making sure to get regular maintenance and keeping it clean. To me, a car is not just a means of transportation, but also a valuable tool that should be treated with care and respect.
I also have a lot of tools that are 50 years old or more, but still work perfectly. Some of them are expensive, but they are worth it because they are so useful. Whether it’s a saw, a drill, or a hammer, I know that these tools will help me accomplish a task and get the job done right.
Of course, being a utilitarian means that I don’t have a lot of luxuries. I don’t buy things just because they look nice or because they are trendy. Instead, I focus on what is useful and what will last. I may not have the latest gadgets or the fanciest clothes, but I have a lot of very useful things that make my life easier and more efficient.
Overall, being a utilitarian has taught me to value the resources I have and to use them wisely. Whether it’s a tool or a piece of furniture, everything in my life has a purpose, and I make sure to take care of it to make sure it lasts. While some may see this as a simple or even austere way of life, I see it as a way of living that is both practical and fulfilling.
